The Program of the Judo Winter Camp 2027

From the Foundations of Kodokan to the Dojo: Technical Mastery and Pedagogical Value

Discover the authentic essence of Judo through an educational journey that connects the roots of Kodokan with modern practice.

The Vision of Jigoro Kano: Balance and Progression

In the historic magazine Kokushi (No. 24, 1900), the founder Jigoro Kano established the ideal balance between standing techniques (Nage waza) and control techniques (Katame waza):

  • For 1st Dan (Shodan) and Kyu grades: 70% to 80% dedicated to Nage waza and 20% to 30% to Katame waza.

  • For higher Dan grades: 60% to 70% dedicated to Nage waza and 30% to 40% to Katame waza.

This Winter Camp deepens this balance, analyzing the technical, pedagogical, and strategic differences between European Judo and Japanese Judo.

Training Methods and Technical Specialization

The camp program focuses on the correct execution and teaching methodology of core practice methods, adapted to the age and rank of the judoka:

  • Fundamental practice: Tandoku Renshu (solo practice) and Sotai Renshu (partner practice).

  • Dynamic development: Uchi komi, Nage komi, Yaku Soku Geiko, and Kakari geiko.

  • Integration and application: Practical study of Randori and Kata, with a specialized focus on groundwork and control techniques (Katame waza / Ne waza): understanding when, how, and why to apply each technique.

The Areas of Focus

  • Technique and Didactics: Clear progression tools for dojo instructors and athletes.

  • Pedagogical Approach: Restoring the educational, cultural, and social value of Judo.

  • High Level and Dojo Practice: Bridging high performance with everyday practice inside the club.

Participation Criteria

The seminar is open to affiliated clubs with athletes and practitioners in the Cadet, Junior, Senior, and Master categories, with a minimum rank of 3rd Kyu (Green Belt).
